The journey from the sand to the silver screen is no small feat, but Shore lb. has officially made it. The recently premiered movie, Off Rip, produced by Jadon Fitzpatrick and shot by Jake Jalbert, tells the inspiring story of a young skimboarder navigating life’s challenges. With themes of resilience, family, and competition, the film strikes a deep chord with the skimboarding community and beyond.
The story of Shore lb.’s involvement began during preparations for the 15th annual Mulligans Skim Jam in August 2022. Sterling Meyers, a Shore lb. team rider and close friend, approached me about a movie producer interested in capturing the world of skimboarding. Despite being consumed by what I call “skim jam brain,” I invited the producer, Jadon Fitzpatrick, to attend the event to experience the atmosphere.
Amid the chaos of hosting the world’s largest one-day skimboarding contest, Jadon made his introduction. I invited him up to the judges’ stand, where he observed and videoed the competition and absorbed the energy of the event. His genuine interest left a lasting impression, even as the whirlwind of Mulligans Skim Jam continued around us.
Two months later, after our team’s customary post-event recovery period, I received a text from Jadon. He was in preproduction for his skimboarding movie and wanted to consult with me about contest setups and the skimboarding community. Our subsequent conversations solidified Shore lb.’s involvement, and I was honored to contribute to shaping the film’s authenticity.
By April 2023, the movie was in full swing, with permits pulled for Treasure Island Beach. A call went out to skimboarders via Shore lb.’s social media, inviting them to join the production. The response was overwhelming, with athletes and legends from all over Florida showing up to support the vision.
On set, it was surreal to see a beach transformed into a movie scene, blending seamlessly with actors who mimicked a typical day at the shore. Skimboarding legends like Von Miller, CJ Lugo, Jack Tenney, Gonzo, Max Smetts, Chris Trapassor, Lucas Fink, Tony Montrone, Sterling Meyers, and others brought unparalleled energy to the shoot. Even rising stars like Nicole Phillips and Skim G added their flair, showcasing the depth of talent in our community.
The day on set was nothing short of incredible. Skimboarding, laughing, and connecting with the cast and crew created an unforgettable experience. As the cameras rolled, the Shore lb. team simply did what we do best—enjoyed the beach and the sport we love.
Fast forward two years from that initial phone call, and the world premiere of Off Rip took place at the Studio Movie Grill in Seminole, Florida. Walking the red carpet alongside my wife, Tiffany, and seeing the Shore lb. logo on the big screen was a moment I’ll never forget.
.
The movie is a testament to the power of perseverance, community, and the bonds forged through skimboarding. Jadon Fitzpatrick and the entire cast believed in our ability to bring their vision to life, and we’re beyond grateful for the opportunity to be part of this journey.
Stay tuned for an East Coast premiere after the holidays, and don’t miss the chance to see Off Rip—a story that proves anything is possible with heart, determination, and the support of an incredible community.
